One would think that as he learns a new language, he wouldn't have to relearn the language of his mother tongue. However, as I learned today, poor grammar in English results in poor grammar in French. In class today we were doing some exercises with the many different tenses of verbs - that is, present, future, near future, past, recent past, conditional, etc., and with indirect discourse (i.e. "He said that..."). Our teacher explained that it was very easy to do... just do what you would do in English. "It's the same thing," he said. Well, obviously, my English isn't very good. I translated the sentences incorrectly.
Anyway, I seem to be relearning English at the same time I'm learning French. Go figure!
